This property is an invaluable part of our state's architectural heritage.

According to the Texas Historical Commission, Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program, Division of Architecture,

We've done a little research and found that the existing courthouse was built by W. E. Rayner, the founder and namesake of the town of Rayner.  Our records suggest that the building was completed in 1891 and that the architect may have been E. G. Withers.

The photo of the courthouse taken just after the building was finished.  The original of this photo is in the Southwest Collection at the Texas Tech University Library.  As you can see the courthouse originally had a prominent tower and distinctive shingles.  Also, it is evident that the existing front porch was a later addition.

Old Glory, TX where the Original Stonewall County Courthouse stands and is owned by the family.  It was the inspiration for the house for the movie GIANT, the set later built in Marfa but has disintegrated.  This is the real deal.
